SNOPA! 19: The Details
The Annual Twin Cities, MN International Folkdance Weekend:
"Annie Get Your Gaida"
February 18-19-20, 2005
Register early... beds go quickly! Price increases $10 after Feb. 1,
'05.
***What's SNOPA?
It's 'Opa!' In The Snow -- a value-packed annual getaway for banishing
midwinter blues, with:
* Dance workshops with 4 teachers from the Greater Midwest (to be
announced);
* Dance parties; Saturday again features Orkestar Bez Ime live (details
below);
* Joan Amsterdam's International Bazaar (we hope);
* AND Balkan singing, music jamming, socializing, winter fun, and
general silliness! Yeeehah!
***Which Way to the Ranch?
It's at Totino Grace Renewal Center in Fridley, MN (a near-NE suburb of
Minneapolis), a quiet retreat facility with easy winter access.
Sleeping quarters are private (twin beds) and pleasant, with shared
bathroom space. A tunnel connects to the high school's 2 wood-floor
dance spaces; no need to venture outside.
****Should I Git Along 'n Register?
Yeah, pardner! The teachers will present exciting and challenging dances
of intermediate to advanced difficulty. If you have some folkdance
experience and enjoy a challenge, you'll find SNOPA rewarding! With
repeat sessions and reviews you can solidify a few favorites. Or, sample
it all, from lower-impact to hot-shot. Get to know your fellow dancers
better. And, the singing... the parties...
the cattle drives... !!
Children are welcome if registered as participants. (Parents must
supervise their children's behavior. No youth activities are planned.)
***Strike Up The Band
Orkestar Bez Ime ("band without a name") is the Twin Cities' hot new
ethnic dance band. OBI features Ethnic Dance Theatre members and alums
Katrina Mundinger, Dee Langley, Colleen Bertsch, Tim Wahl and Natalie
Nowytski. OBI's dance gigs include Door County Folk Festival, Madison
Folk Ball, Tapestry's Fall Workshops, and last year's SNOPA!
